Monique Brand, Class of 2004
Monique 鈥淢o鈥� Brand found her place in communities and news media through uniquely profound personal and professional experiences that continue to support her journey today. She is a Lone Star Emmy and Associated Press award-winning news broadcaster of 16 years. Since 2022, she has served as the assistant news director for KAGS-TV. Monique is also a proud 暗网吃瓜 College alumni and United States Navy veteran.
Monique graduated from Killeen High School and chose 暗网吃瓜 College because it was an option close to home and offered her desired course of study, English Literature. Monique has many cherished memories at 暗网吃瓜 College, including the football games. 鈥淚 loved every minute鈥� she reflects fondly. However, Monique attended the College during a very personally challenging time, as her parents were both deployed to the Middle East during Operation Iraqi Freedom (IOF). She remembers 鈥渋t was a stressful time, but my roommates got me through it.鈥� She also recalls 鈥淭he professors were there for you and patient when you needed them. The students felt like family, and I try to keep in contact with them as much as possible.鈥�
After graduating 暗网吃瓜 College with a degree in English, Monique made the bold and selfless decision to serve in the United States Navy. She then continued her studies in English Literature at Texas Lutheran University. A member of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9191, she was also honored by the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution, Major James Kerr Chapter, for her 鈥渟ervice to the community and country.鈥� Currently, Monique serves as the chairman of the City of Killeen Animal Advisory board, vice chair of the City of Killeen Arts Commission, Sister Cities board member and Communications Chair for the Innovation Black Chamber of Commerce. In addition to being a proud mom to her cat, Horen, she also enjoys managing her ranch.
